Fuchsia Marquise Filigree Statement Ring

A long marquise-cut stone in saturated fuchsia, set into antiqued copper-tone filigree that scrolls down both sides of the ring. Because the stone is translucent and open-backed, the color shifts with the light from bright magenta to deep plum.

The marquise cut comes with one of jewelry’s favorite legends: that its shape was inspired by the smile of Madame de Pompadour, the famously influential mistress of Louis XV. True or embellished, it’s a fitting story for a shape that has never exactly been known for keeping a low profile.
