The Leopard's Mouth

A heavy gold wheat chain that closes with a leopard's mouth.

The toggle is the whole event here — a pavé-set big cat's head, one green glass eye catching the light, jaws open around a polished gold ring. You push the bar through and the cat closes. It is a fastening that behaves like a decision.

The chain itself is the tell: thick, braided, substantial in the hand, the kind of weight that costume jewelry stopped bothering with sometime after 1985. Unsigned, but built in the Gemcraft manner — the American house that made mid-century costume pieces with a finish and a heft that punched several tiers above their price. This came to us with that attribution and the construction supports it.
